EMCs 2008–2009

All those selected to be 2008–2009 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMCs) are required to complete an (one) Instructional Session before they minister at Benet. The dates and times of these sessions are listed on the EMC homepage.

Servers, Lectors, etc. for 2008–2009

Those interested in ministries other than EMC should contact Fr. Bob. There are still openings for Lectors, Servers, and Sacristans for all Masses and Musicians for the daily Masses. While the Servers are often members of the St. Wenceslas Server Society, additional Servers, Lectors, Sacristans, and other ministers are truly needed for daily and special event Masses. These ministers may be current Benet students of any class.

Chapel Clean Up/Set Up

Immediately after EMC Instructional Session on Wednesday, August 20 (approximately 2:00 pm), there will be an optional clean up/set up work time in the Chapel. The EMCs are responsible for this clean up/set up work, but anyone who would like to help is invited. NHS hours are available for this work. See the EMC homepage for details.

Schedule

In general, All-School Masses have a set up the night before the Mass in the Large Gym usually at 7:00 pm. The specific start time does vary depending particularly on sporting events and practices. The start time is posted when it is known, usually about one week in advance. All EMCs do set up with help from the Servers and Sacristans as they are available. NHS service hours are available for set-up and take-down time, but not for Mass, itself.

Set up dates currently scheduled for the 2008–2009 academic year are:

Liturgical Calendar (Ordo) and Readings

The "ordo" is the liturgical calendar. At Benet Academy, our liturgical calendar is informed by that of the Roman rite of the Catholic church in the United States, the tradition of our founders i.e., the Benedictine monks of St. Procopius Abbey (which is a member of the American-Cassinese Congregation of Benedictine Monasteries), and the local calendar of the Diocese of Joliet in Illinois in which we are located. In our Sacristy, there is an ordo of the American-Cassinese Congregation of Benedictine Monks which includes most of the details in the fine print. However, some extra checking is sometimes necessary.

All that said, unless the Bishop of Joliet directs differently for some special occasion, Sundays during the regular semesters of the academic year always happen to follow the ordo of the U.S. Bishops.
