The Guidance Department at Benet Academy offers comprehensive service to students from the moment they enter high school. Benet counselors are available to provide academic, personal, college, and career counseling to students. Students are assigned a counselor in their freshman year and stay with this counselor through their junior year. As a senior, a student is then assigned one of the senior counselors who specialize in the college selection and admission process. This gives a student the ability to draw from the strengths of individual counselors in order to receive the best service possible. (If you are interested in some study skills or adolescent issues information, visit our page.)
The Guidance Department operates a College Counseling Center on the main floor of St. Joseph’s Hall. On most school days the center is open from 7:30 am - 3:00 pm for students and parents. This Center provides students with the opportunity to search through information on hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide; including resource books, college catalogs, CDs and DVDs. Another resource in the college selection process is the ability for juniors and seniors to speak with over 200 different college and university representatives who visit Benet’s campus each year. The department also offers a number of programs throughout the school year to help students and parents with the college search process (see our page). Additionally, students and parents alike will find some valuable information on the entire college selection process including search programs, financial aid information, specific college data, a list of ACT and SAT test preparation classes, and career related information in the sites contained on our page.
