Tutoring

Overview:

1.  Prentiss Creek Resource Center (formerly Autumn Grove)

Prentiss Creek Resource Center is located in Prentiss Creek Apartment complex in Downers Grove.  Volunteers tutor and play with children in grade school or junior high from lower income backgrounds.  The program runs Monday through Thursday from 3-5 pm starting 10 September 2007.  Because it is part of a Community Policing Program, the Resource Center always has a police officer present at the facility in the afternoons - not for safety issues, but to act, along with the volunteers, as a positive role model for the students.

There are weekly sign-up sheets for Benet volunteers posted on the bulletin board outside the Outreach office.  The coordinator at Prentiss Creek  has requested that no more than 8 Benet volunteers come on any given day.

Therefore, after turning in your permission form, please make sure you sign up on the sheet located on the counter in the Outreach office for the days you would like to volunteer before going over to Prentiss Creek .  Also, if your plans change and you cannot go on a day for which you have signed up, please take your name off of the sign up sheet so that someone else may go in your place.

Lastly, Prentiss Creek Resource Center requests that volunteers commit to a six week cycle - meaning that you volunteer on the same weekday(s), more or less, for six consecutive weeks.  If for some reason you cannot do this, please tell Erin at the Resource Center and work it out with her

2.  Jonas Salk Elementary School

Jonas Salk Elementary School is located in Bolingbrook.  Last year, the tutoring program was after school on Tuesdays until 4:15pm.  The dates for this year’s program are still to be determined.
