'74 Alumni Tom Becker starring in John Denver Tribute

Posted By Tom Becker, Sunday, October 31, 2010
Updated: Sunday, October 31, 2010

Benet Alumni Returns to St. Charles in John Denver Tribute Tom Becker, Former Member of The New Christy Minstrels St. Charles, IL -- November 19, 2010 --
Glen Ellyn native and Benet Academy graduate, Tom Becker, returns to St. Charles, starring in "Back Home Again -- A Tribute to John Denver".
Tom and his band bring back the foot-stomping fun of "Thank God, I'm a Country Boy" the tenderness of "Annie's Song", and the sweeping grandeur of "Eagle and the Hawk" to St. Charles' Arcada Theater on Friday, November 19th. A former member of the legendary folk group, The New Christy Minstrels, Tom offers a poignant and often humorous look at his life in folk music, and performs John Denver's biggest hits including "Country Roads" and "Rocky Mountain High", along with lesser known Denver songs that are sure to please long-time fans.

Friday November 19th. Arcada Theater 105 E. Main Street St. Charles, IL 60174 Showtime: 8:30pm. Tickets: Start at $29. to $59.

Available by calling 630-962-7000 or going to https://tix.cnptix.com/tix/SilverStream/Pages/pgIndex.html?siteID=928 or http://www.thearcada.com/index.html

Class of 82 mini-reunion on Feb 20, 2010

Posted By Jeff Sweeney, Sunday, January 31, 2010
Attention fellow Benetians...
Here's the deal and it's a good one! Lynne Dickey and myself were chatting and we've decided that it's been far too long. Facebook has reconnected us but we would really like to get together. So...I contacted a local Bar and Grill who have agreed to accommodate us free of charge-as in no room charge-to use their facility for a fun night out. Bring anyone you want and just show up! Whatever you drink or eat, you are responsible for. No strings attached. I've listed some of the amenities at the place and there is also a band on Saturday nights. I will have info soon on who it is. So, the bottom line is---Come!!! Have a blast from the past!!! If you live out of state and are within a reasonable distance and would like to come-one of the places nearby is listed with the amenities.
Saturday, February 20th at 7:30 at Mullen's Bar and Grill-3080 Warrenville Road-Lisle. Their website is www.mullensbarandgrill.com if you need directions. They will give us a room if you can let me know if you can attend if you already know for sure. Just email me and let me know how many. I can't wait!!! See ya there!!!

Fundraiser for Elise (Spina) Whitaker's Son, Ben

Posted By Barbara Markoff Markoff-Eggener, Wednesday, June 03, 2009
Updated: Wednesday, June 03, 2009

Hello,

Benet alums CeCe (Sullivan) Heraty, Melissa (Pins) Bergetz, Rebecca (Prazak) Ewan and Barb (Markoff) Eggener, all from the class of 1990, are hosting a fundraiser on June 11th for Ben Whitaker, the son of Elise (Spina) Whitaker (class of 1990).  Please see background information below from Ben's Caring Bridge page.

Please click link below (or cut and paste) for the Evite to this event and/or to donate:  http://www.evite.com/pages/invite/viewInvite.jsp?inviteId=KIHZMQNITZVUFDHNGRSN

Background Story

Hello! Many of you visiting know me... my name is Ben! I am 4 1/2 years old and cannot WAIT to turn 5. I love Metra trains, airplanes (not necessarily to fly), school and playing with my friends and family. My best friend is my bear BooBah and I love my little brother, Colin... even though I don't always love him touching my stuff!

On April 7th, I went in to the doctor for my brother's appointment. After being quite tired for a few weeks, my mom thought it might be a good idea for the doc to check me out as well. They gave me a blood test which resulted in a very low hemoglobin level. After much poking, touching and other things that I don't love, the doctors at Children's Memorial Hospital concluded that I have AML... a form of Leukemia. Anyone who knows me knows that I am FULL of life, outgoing, strong-willed, sensitive and a strong fighter. I am going to fight and survive this with the help of all of my family and friends. Along the way, I will continue to play silly with my daddy and tell my mom how much I love her shirts, even when she hasn't showered for a week. : )

This site is to keep all of you informed of my progress, updates, etc. as I am in CHOP and in my new home in Philly! Thank you for visiting and please keep praying for me.... I LOVE churches.

Thanks!

Love, Ben

Nevermore: The Dark World of Edgar Allen Poe

Posted By Kristina Castellano Sandrock, Sunday, October 21, 2007
Hello, Benet friends!

I'm happy to say that since playing Kim in Benet's 1996 production of "Bye Bye Birdie," I have indeed continued to pursue my love of performing.  Right now, I am in a brand new show in Elmhurst, IL, and I would love to have some fellow Benet alumni come see it!

Here's the info...

NEVERMORE: THE DARK WORLD OF EDGAR ALLAN POE is a new play conceived and directed by Cory Sandrock, with Kris (Castellano) Sandrock playing the role of Lenore. The play weaves together many all-time favorite Poe stories and poems, like "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Cask of Amontillado," and "The Raven," with some of his lesser-known works, such as "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether" and "The Premature Burial." The play also incorporates intense choreography throughout to link the various tales and keep the show flowing. Overall the play delves into the imagination of Poe and attempts to understand how he could write such strange and terrible stories.

NEVERMORE is being produced by GreenMan Theatre Troupe (www.greenmantheatre.com) at the Masonic Lodge in Elmhurst. The show runs for 3 weekends, with the specifics as follows:

DATES:    October 19 - November 4
TIMES:    Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 3pm
TICKETS:    $15 Adults, $10 Seniors/Students
PLACE:    Elmhurst Masonic Lodge, 103 Arthur Street, Elmhurst
For tickets, call the box office at 630-464-2646

Hope to see you there!
