Baseball

Baseball meeting after school for Varsity and Soph teams on the stage in the small gym.  The meeting will last 15 minutes.  Varsity team will have conditioning tomorrow at 3:30.

Volleyball

Boys Volleyball:  Will not have open gym this Sunday (Jan 12)

Philosophy Club

Philosophy Club is back with a meeting this Friday at 7:10 AM in J119. The club will be discussing Success. THERE WILL BE FOOD! Come armed with opinions. SALT

The service opportunity at Villa St. Benedict for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8th at 3:15 is still scheduled to take place.  All students interested in participating in playing Bingo should be at Villa St. Benedict's entrance off of Maple avenue (entrance with the canopy) immediately after school.  We will finish up around 4:15 to 4:30.

Tomorrow's trip to the National Alliance for the Mentally ill tomorrow evening will NOT take place due to schedule changes and anticipated possible heavier homework loads tomorrow evening.  If you were planning on attending, please contact Mrs. Bedore a.s.a.p. to see if arrangements can still be made. 

S.A.L.T. life's guest speaker, Nancy Kreuzer, will be rescheduled due to the cancellation of school on Tuesday.  Listen for announcements about her future visit.

Benet Broadcasting...It's a lot like the Christmas Drive, but not really at all

SALT

SALT invites you to help Giant Steps School and people with autism over Christmas break.  Giant Steps is running 6 days of DAY CAMP on Dec. 23rd, 26th, 30th, 31st, January 2nd and 3rd. These dates are on the Giant Steps VolunteerSpot activity calendar and a list is also on the service bulletin board. Times are 9:00am-3:00pm, but you may be able to volunteer for a shorter amount of time. 

Make plans now to start the new year off with a generous spirit by spending a portion of your day at Villa St. Benedict after school until 4:30 or at the National Alliance for the Mentally ill from 7:00-8:30  on Wednesday, January 8th .

Baseball

Sophomore baseball meeting after school on Thursday.  The meeting will be 10 minutes and meet on the back of the stage in the small gym.

Christmas Drive
Here's a great idea for a Christmas gift for your Mom!  Purchase one of Mrs. Shuma's cookbooks for $5 and when your Mom makes one of the delicious recipes, you will benefit from your gift!!!  Proceeds from sales go to the Christmas Drive

Kipp & Roskam comedy show tonight at 6pm in the cafe. $5 at the door. Pizza will be served
Silent Auction to play in the Faculty v. Student basketball game during the assembly

Three Point Contest

Tomorrow and Thursday during all homerooms there will be a three point contest taking place in the large gym. It is $1 to enter the gym to watch and an additional $2 to participate. Contestants will get 45 seconds to make as many three pointers as they can. The person who makes the most from each grade will compete in a final match during the assembly on Friday. Please check into homeroom first before coming to the gym.

Faculty-Student basketball

A silent auction is taking place for students wanting to play in the faculty-student basketball game this Friday during the assembly. The top five bids will be selected. Sign up by this Thursday on the SG office window.

The NHS is sponsoring a giving tree in martin's lobby. Take an ornament and buy a present for a child in need. The present does not need to be wrapped. Turn in Gift cards to the dean's office.

Peer Tutoring

Any student who had a peer tutor for first semester and wishes to continue with tutoring for second semester needs to check with their peer tutor to see if they are available to do this. If your peer tutor is able to continue tutoring for second semester, you should see your counselor to make the necessary arrangements. If you do not see your counselor, you will not be scheduled for peer tutoring for second semester. Any questions, please see your counselor.

Boys’ Volleyball
Anyone interested in playing Boys Volleyball this spring, there is a meeting Thursday at 3:10 in the Caf.

Boys’ Track

There will be a meeting for any boy interested in track tomorrow at 3:15 in Mr. Renicker’s room.

Boys’ Basketball

Ticket sales for Marian Catholic this Friday night. We will be doing a presale of tickets for the Marian Catholic game this Friday night.  Tickets will be $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for anyone else.  We have a limited number of tickets for presale.  If you are planning on attending this game then you should consider purchasing a ticket early.  We do not know, at this time, if tickets will be sold at the door.  We are trying to find out. Tickets will be on sale starting Wednesday during senior/junior lunch and homeroom periods in the athletic office.

Science Alliance
Science Alliance will meet after school today at 3:15 in Mr. Marshall's room.

Film Club
We will be finishing It’s a Wonderful Life today in M121.

Abbey Servers

Attention Abbey Servers: receive your schedule for your lunch moderator today.  If you cannot serve at the two Christmas masses, please call Fr. Julian tonight.

International Culture Club
For Christmas Drive this year, the International Culture Club will be watching the movie 'Elf' today in room S119 and to watch the movie is $3. We will also be selling international dishes that club members have made, so make sure to stop on by! Remember, it's not just for the children, but for people all over the world.

Coat Drive
The German club will be sponsoring a coat drive this week to benefit St. Philomena parish in Chicago. Please bring in gently used winter coats and hats and gloves. Drop off in the front lobby. or M24. 

All sizes are welcome, especially children’s.

Benet Academy is making available for purchase an extremely limited number of parking permits for the St. Scholastic lot. To apply, go to the Benet.org home page and look for the link under announcements. The deadline for applying is Friday, December 20th (the last day before Christmas break). You must be a licensed driver by December 20th to apply.

SALT Life will have a guest speaker Nancy Kreuzer on Tuesday, January 7th at 3:00.  Nancy will share her personal story of a later term abortion, her healing process, and her work in speaking out about the preciousness of life.  All March for Life participants are asked to attend and others are welcome.

Any of Mr. Brooks' former students that would like to get in on the silent auction for one of the bowls of his limited edition Christmas Drive 2013 chili can either see Mr. Brooks in person today with a bid or send him an e-mail with a bid by 7pm tonight.  Winners will be notified via e-mail - chili will be available for lunch on Wednesday.  Freshmen and sophomores will get it delivered to them at lunch, juniors and seniors will have to get in from Mr. Brooks since he has class during your lunch period. Note: There have already been 2 very strong bids by freshmen, so go big or go hungry!!

German Club

A reminder to all German students that the German Department's Christmas party is today after school in room M24.  After the party the film Ice Age will be shown all in German. There is no charge to go, and remember, Florian Scheider would be disappointed if you don't.

Service Hour Opportunities

The Anti-Cruelty Society is offering students an opportunity to explore animal welfare issues and interact with cats and dogs at the downtown Chicago office. You will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 – 7:00 PM for 9 weeks.

Students can earn service learning credits or an attendance-based stipend.

CTA passes will be provided to help with transportation.

Need a couple of NHS hours?  Want to hear some amazing music at the same time you're earning those hours?  then PLEASE sign up to be a ticket seller/usher at the Band/Orchestra concert tonight in St. Daniel's hall.  Ushers are also still needed for Sunday afternoon's Christmas spectacular concert!  Sign up is in the dean's office or contact Mrs. Rogalski

Attention prospective bowlers: If you would still like to sign up for bowling club but haven't yet done so, you need to e-mail Mr. Wash and turn in your $10 registration fee before you can start bowling. This can be done at any time throughout the school year.

The Environmental Club will meet after school on Monday in Mrs. Volin's room.  All students are invited to come to meeting and find out what's happening in the Environmental Club!

NHS

NHS members: you should have received an email by now telling you when to bring in baked goods for the bake sale. If you missed your day, please bring something in during one of the remaining days of Christmas Drive.

SALT

The final round of the Fifa tournament will be held today in the cafeteria. 

 

All groups who have not picked up their Christmas shopping family information should do so today.  The Shopping day begins tomorrow in Daniel's hall at 9:00 a.m.  Each group should remember to bring their faith inspired Christmas Ornament to spread Christmas cheer while on the shopping trip.  If you have a parent driver, please invite them into St. Daniel's hall for coffee and a danish while they wait for you. 

Calling all SALT volunteers...you are needed for locker decorating during study halls or after school today.  See Mrs. Bedore.

Christmas Drive

Monday is comfy shoe day. For a $1 donation, you can wear boots, sneakers, slippers, or any other type of comfortable shoe (no sandals please) instead of your uniform shoe. Donations will be taken at the doors

The World Famous Whipped Cream Shots will be administered in M125 on Tues. Dec. 17th.

The library will hold a drawing for a $25.00 gift certificate to Anderson's Bookstore.  Entries are 2 for $1.00.  All proceeds go to the Christmas drive.  The drawing will be held on Friday, December 20.  The library is also selling locker organizers.  Pick one up for $1.00.  Proceeds will be donated to the Christmas drive

Senor Marth will be driving a sleigh full of toys and hopefully a few elves down to Our Lady of Angels on Saturday, December 14th from 7:00-1:00 for their annual Christmas party.  Enjoy sharing in holiday cheer with the neighbors of Our Lady of Angels food pantry.  Sign up and permission slips are at the service bulletin board. 

Christmas Drive

The library will hold a drawing for a $25.00 gift certificate to Anderson's Bookstore.  Entries are 2 for $1.00.  All proceeds go to the Christmas drive.  The drawing will be held on Friday, December 20.  The library is also selling locker organizers.  Pick one up for $1.00.  Proceeds will be donated to the Christmas drive

Service Hour Opportunities

The Anti-Cruelty Society is offering students an opportunity to explore animal welfare issues and interact with cats and dogs at the downtown Chicago office. You will meet everyTuesdayand Thursday from 4:30 – 7:00 PM for 9 weeks.

Students can earn service learning credits or an attendance-based stipend.

CTA passes will be provided to help with transportation.

Benet Academy is making available for purchase an extremely limited number of parking permits for the St. Scholastic lot. To apply, go to the Benet.org home page and look for the link under announcements. The deadline for applying is Friday, December 20th (the last day before Christmas break). You must be a licensed driver by December 20th to apply.

Senior Yearbook Ads

Attention senior, the flyers for senior ads in the yearbook have arrived please stop in the business office, deans office, or S207 to pick one up. Last day to order is Jan 22, 2014.

Science Olympiad

If you are planning to go on Saturday, please turn in your permission slip by Thursday morning in T112. If your form is missing, other team members will be chosen.

Bowling

Attention prospective bowlers: If you would still like to sign up for bowling club but haven't yet done so, you need to e-mail Mr. Wash and turn in your $10 registration fee before you can start bowling. This can be done at any time throughout the school year.

SALT's Random Acts of Kindness will be having a very important meeting after school on Wednesday, 12/11, at 2:30. If you cannot make it, please email Callie Sharp for information.

Christmas Drive Shopping Day forms for December 14th are due to Mrs. Bedore by Tomorrow!. All groups who have already turned in their group packet should also stop by Mrs. Bedore's office to pick up your adopt-a-family information. We will also be baking sugar cookies for the Adopt-a-families Thursday after school in the cafe. All students are invited to participate, whether you are in the Christmas Drive or not, and groups delivering to families should try to bake on Thursday so that your family can enjoy freshly baked Christmas cookies. The donation to cover the cost of ingredients is $3.00 per dozen cookies. Sign up for baking is on the service bulletin board.

Christmas Drive

Every day before school and during lunch, raffles will be held for the Christmas Drive. Today's raffle prize is two tickets to a Chicago Wolves hockey game. Anytime you buy a ticket, it stays in play until it is drawn. Buy your ticket now and be eligible for this Friday's big ticket item, an autographed photo of White Sox's player Adam Dunn.

Take advantage of this opportunity to show why Benet has the best fans in the state.

"Put your friends' baking skills to the test. Check out the NHS Bake Sale during lunch each day of Christmas Drive!

NHS Members:  Each small group has been assigned a day to bring in treats so don't forget to check your Benet emails! Turn all baked goods into the Dean's Office on the morning of your assigned day. Feel free to sign up on the service hours bulletin board to work the bake sale during 5th and/or 6th period lunch. Contact Sarah Paoli or Shannon Degnan if you have any questions."

The NHS Cultural Potluck is next Tuesday from 5:30-7 in the cafe. Stop by and give $5 to the Drive to eat before going to the boys varsity basketball game or the choir concert. Bring your favorite cultural dish, and earn 1 service hour by making it yourself, sign up sheet for food is on the NHS service board. Bring your friends! You don't have to bring food to come! See Simone Ymson or Alex Linder for any questions.

Broadcasting Club

Christmas Drive

Tomorrow is dollar day for the penny wars. It is the only day that paper money is accepted for points towards your class. Bring in any bills and put them IN YOUR CLASS'S BUCKET to count for points for your class. Remember, penny wars are over Thursday morning so there are only 2 more days to go

-Come out and cheer on the Girls & Boys Basketball Teams tonight in the gym. Girls play at 5:30 and Boys at 7:30.   ----- NHS will be hosting a dinner in the cafe in-between the games

Sophomore Parking Permits

Attention sophomores and parents of sophomores:

 

Benet Academy is making available an extremely limited number of parking permits for the St. Scholastica lot available for purchase. To apply, go to the Benet.org website and navigate to the Deans' Office page and click on the 2013-2014 parking permit application link on the left side. If you have already submitted an application earlier this school year you need not reapply.

 

To qualify:

 

The student must be a licensed driver as of December 21, 20013 (the last day before Christmas break).

Proof of insurance must be submitted as part of the application.

The fee for the permit is $125 for the rest of this school year.

Distance traveled to school will be the most significant (although not the only) factor in determining which families will be issued a permit. Please use Mapquest directions in determining distance traveled to school.

Applications will be processed during Christmas. Families who qualify for permits will be contacted during the first week following Christmas break.

Christmas Drive

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. What then could be better than a breakfast cooked by not one but 30 moms? Come on out tomorrow morning to enjoy eggs, bacon, pastries, and a host of other homecooked foods at the mother's club Christmas breakfast. Breakfast will start at 6:45 am in the cafe for a $5 donation.

Come check out the SG window to sign up for... You've Been Elfed, Ping Pong Tournament, Secret Santa, Silent Auctions (for a parking pass, getting pushed around all day in a comfy chair, and to be the dean for the day), and more.

-Penny Wars started today and will continue for the rest of the week. Bring your pennies in.
