Scholarship Opportunity

The National Exchange Club usually awards one Benet senior a $1,000 academic scholarship. Extracurricular activities are very important. To be considered you must attend an information meeting in the CCC on this Thursday, January, 23th, during homeroom. District winners are automatically entered in the national competition for a $10,000 scholarship.

Girls’ Soccer

There is a mandatory meeting for junior and senior soccer girls on Thursday, January 23 at 3:10 in the small gym meeting room.

Boys’ Basketball

The boys basketball team will play Milwaukee Washington this Saturday at 6:30 at Hinsdale Central. Washington features Kevon Looney, one of the top players in the country. Tickets are available during all lunch periods.

Freshman Baseball

All freshmen interested in playing baseball this spring should attend a meting on Tuesday, January 21st during 5A in Room J307.  Any questions see Coach Kazlauskas.

Voter Registration

Seniors can register to vote on Monday, January 27th during periods 4 – 7.  In order to register you must be 18 on or before November 4th, 2014, and you need to bring 2 forms of identification with you, one of which with your address.  Also, 17 year olds will be able to vote in the upcoming March primary election.  Please see Mr. Noel with questions. 

Catalyst

Attention Juniors: Permission slips are now available in the dean's office for the January 31st Catalyst retreat. Participation is limited to the first 25 girls and 25 boys. Questions, see Miss Condon

Broadcasting Club

There will be a Broadcasting Club meeting tomorrow after school in Meeting Room 2 in the Library.

Art Students

Any art student who would like their work from last semester, please pick them up from Brother Kevin’s room by Friday.

Detention

There will be detention tomorrow in M26.  Due to a large number of detentions, the list is split between this and next Thursday, so look at the lists carefully.

SALT

Villa St. Benedict's is looking for a few Redwinged angels to visit with their residents!  As part of their angel program, 1 or 2 students would bring a cart of tea, cocoa, cookies, and conversation to residents who seldom receive visitors or get out of their room.  Redwing Angels would visit on any day Monday through Thursday after school. Sign up on the service bulletin board. Students should come in the Benedale entrance, south side of the building under the Burgandy Canopy to the concierge desk and ask for Bob Clark.

Attention senior, the flyers for senior ads in the yearbook have arrived please stop in the business office, deans office, or S207 to pick one up.  Last day to order is Jan 22, 2014.

Summer Service Trip

Any junior interested in a summer service trip to Guatemala this June must attend an informational meeting next Wednesday after the second exam or Thursday at 7:10 in room M23.  Any questions, see Senor Frey.  Attendance in mandatory if you are interested in this trip.

Entrance Exam

Proctors and NHS Volunteers are asked to park in St. Daniel’s.  NHS Volunteers must wear the Benet uniform and arrive at 7:45 in the Recruitment Office.

Football

There will be a brief meeting after school today for all football players participating in the off-season weight lifting program.  The meeting will begin at 3:10 in the multi-media lab.

Sophomore Girls’ Soccer

Peer Tutoring

Any student who had a peer tutor for first semester and wishes to continue with tutoring for second semester needs to check with their peer tutor to see if they are available to do this. If your peer tutor is able to continue tutoring for second semester, you should see your counselor to make the necessary arrangements. If you do not see your counselor, you will not be scheduled for peer tutoring for second semester. Any questions, please see your counselor.

Girls’ Golf

If anyone on the Girls’ Golf Team hasn’t picked up their sweatshirt, you can pick it up in Ms. Carlevato’s office.

Math Team

Math team will meet Tuesday at 11:30 in room M225 to take the IML exam

SALT

TeenSpeak, Illinois' largest prolife convention, is coming up February 1st from 9 to 3 at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare Hotel.  This year's convention, Pro-Life Knowledge is Power, features Viki Thorn, Founder of Project Rachel, one of the world's largest post-abortion ministries.  Vicki loves speaking to teens and sharing the amazing biochemistry of attachment and bonding between men and women, between parents and children.  Sessions will be available for both teens and adults.  See Mrs. Bedore or the Service Bulletin Board for Registration and Permission forms. 

Notre Dame Vision is a Catholic Youth Conference where High schoolers can explore the lifelong relationship between God's call and our response.  All baptized Christians share a common vocation to holiness and yet we are each given unique ways to respond to God's call in our lives.  Brochures are available at the SALT office and at the Service bulletin board.

The service opportunity at Villa St. Benedict for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8th at 3:15 is still scheduled to take place.  All students interested in participating in playing Bingo should be at Villa St. Benedict's entrance off of Maple avenue (entrance with the canopy) immediately after school.  We will finish up around 4:15 to 4:30.

Benet Broadcasting...It's a lot like the Christmas Drive, but not really at all

SALT

SALT invites you to help Giant Steps School and people with autism over Christmas break.  Giant Steps is running 6 days of DAY CAMP on Dec. 23rd, 26th, 30th, 31st, January 2nd and 3rd. These dates are on the Giant Steps VolunteerSpot activity calendar and a list is also on the service bulletin board. Times are 9:00am-3:00pm, but you may be able to volunteer for a shorter amount of time. 

Make plans now to start the new year off with a generous spirit by spending a portion of your day at Villa St. Benedict after school until 4:30 or at the National Alliance for the Mentally ill from 7:00-8:30  on Wednesday, January 8th .

Christmas Drive
Here's a great idea for a Christmas gift for your Mom!  Purchase one of Mrs. Shuma's cookbooks for $5 and when your Mom makes one of the delicious recipes, you will benefit from your gift!!!  Proceeds from sales go to the Christmas Drive

Silent Auction to play in the Faculty v. Student basketball game during the assembly

Three Point Contest

Tomorrow and Thursday during all homerooms there will be a three point contest taking place in the large gym. It is $1 to enter the gym to watch and an additional $2 to participate. Contestants will get 45 seconds to make as many three pointers as they can. The person who makes the most from each grade will compete in a final match during the assembly on Friday. Please check into homeroom first before coming to the gym.

Faculty-Student basketball

A silent auction is taking place for students wanting to play in the faculty-student basketball game this Friday during the assembly. The top five bids will be selected. Sign up by this Thursday on the SG office window.

The NHS is sponsoring a giving tree in martin's lobby. Take an ornament and buy a present for a child in need. The present does not need to be wrapped. Turn in Gift cards to the dean's office.

Anyone interested in playing Boys Volleyball this spring, there is a meeting Thursday at 3:10 in the Caf.

Boys’ Track

There will be a meeting for any boy interested in track tomorrow at 3:15 in Mr. Renicker’s room.

Boys’ Basketball

Ticket sales for Marian Catholic this Friday night. We will be doing a presale of tickets for the Marian Catholic game this Friday night.  Tickets will be $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for anyone else.  We have a limited number of tickets for presale.  If you are planning on attending this game then you should consider purchasing a ticket early.  We do not know, at this time, if tickets will be sold at the door.  We are trying to find out. Tickets will be on sale starting Wednesday during senior/junior lunch and homeroom periods in the athletic office.

Science Alliance
Science Alliance will meet after school today at 3:15 in Mr. Marshall's room.

Film Club
We will be finishing It’s a Wonderful Life today in M121.

Abbey Servers

Attention Abbey Servers: receive your schedule for your lunch moderator today.  If you cannot serve at the two Christmas masses, please call Fr. Julian tonight.

International Culture Club
For Christmas Drive this year, the International Culture Club will be watching the movie 'Elf' today in room S119 and to watch the movie is $3. We will also be selling international dishes that club members have made, so make sure to stop on by! Remember, it's not just for the children, but for people all over the world.

Coat Drive
The German club will be sponsoring a coat drive this week to benefit St. Philomena parish in Chicago. Please bring in gently used winter coats and hats and gloves. Drop off in the front lobby. or M24. 

All sizes are welcome, especially children’s.

 

Sophomore Parking Permits

Benet Academy is making available for purchase an extremely limited number of parking permits for the St. Scholastic lot. To apply, go to the Benet.org home page and look for the link under announcements. The deadline for applying is Friday, December 20th (the last day before Christmas break). You must be a licensed driver by December 20th to apply.

Any of Mr. Brooks' former students that would like to get in on the silent auction for one of the bowls of his limited edition Christmas Drive 2013 chili can either see Mr. Brooks in person today with a bid or send him an e-mail with a bid by 7pm tonight.  Winners will be notified via e-mail - chili will be available for lunch on Wednesday.  Freshmen and sophomores will get it delivered to them at lunch, juniors and seniors will have to get in from Mr. Brooks since he has class during your lunch period. Note: There have already been 2 very strong bids by freshmen, so go big or go hungry!!

Film Club
We will be finishing It’s a Wonderful Life on Wednesday in M121.

German Club

A reminder to all German students that the German Department's Christmas party is today after school in room M24.  After the party the film Ice Age will be shown all in German. There is no charge to go, and remember, Florian Scheider would be disappointed if you don't.

International Culture Club

Regional Mock Trial team WILL have a meeting tomorrow (wed. 12/18) before school at 7:25 in the caf. It will be a quick 5 minute meeting and attendance is mandatory.

Coat Drive
The German club will be sponsoring a coat drive this week to benefit St. Philomena parish in Chicago. Please bring in gently used winter coats and hats and gloves. Drop off in the front lobby. or M24. 

All sizes are welcome, especially children’s.

Benet Academy is making available for purchase an extremely limited number of parking permits for the St. Scholastic lot. To apply, go to the Benet.org home page and look for the link under announcements. The deadline for applying is Friday, December 20th (the last day before Christmas break). You must be a licensed driver by December 20th to apply.

Senior Yearbook Ads

Attention senior, the flyers for senior ads in the yearbook have arrived please stop in the business office, deans office, or S207 to pick one up.  Last day to order is Jan 22, 2014.

SALT

SALT is offering the opportunity to help Giant Steps School and people with autism over Christmas break.  Giant Steps is running 6 days of DAY CAMP on Dec. 23rd, 26th, 30th, 31st, January 2nd and 3rd. These dates are on the Giant Steps VolunteerSpot activity calendar and a list is also on the service bulletin board. Times are 9:00am-3:00pm, but you may be able to volunteer for a shorter amount of time.

Service Hour Opportunities

The Anti-Cruelty Society is offering students an opportunity to explore animal welfare issues and interact with cats and dogs at the downtown Chicago office. You will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 – 7:00 PM for 9 weeks.

Students can earn service learning credits or an attendance-based stipend.

CTA passes will be provided to help with transportation.

Need a couple of NHS hours?  Want to hear some amazing music at the same time you're earning those hours?  then PLEASE sign up to be a ticket seller/usher at the Band/Orchestra concert tonight in St. Daniel's hall.  Ushers are also still needed for Sunday afternoon's Christmas spectacular concert!  Sign up is in the dean's office or contact Mrs. Rogalski

Girls’ Track

There will be a meeting after school next Tuesday for any girl interested in competing on the Girls' Track team this year.  The meeting will take place in Mr. Brooks' room S-211 at 3:10pm.  The meeting will last 10-15 minutes

Bowling

Attention prospective bowlers: If you would still like to sign up for bowling club but haven't yet done so, you need to e-mail Mr. Wash and turn in your $10 registration fee before you can start bowling. This can be done at any time throughout the school year.

Environmental Club

The Environmental Club will meet after school on Monday in Mrs. Volin's room.  All students are invited to come to meeting and find out what's happening in the Environmental Club!

Broadcasting Club

International Culture Club

For Christmas Drive this year, the International Culture Club will be watching the movie 'Elf' on Wednesday 18th in room S119. We will be auctioning off international dishes that club members have made to eat during the movie, along with other prizes! To watch the movie is $3, and for the movie and raffle entry, it will be $5. Remember, it's not just for the children, but for people all over the world!

NHS

NHS members: you should have received an email by now telling you when to bring in baked goods for the bake sale. If you missed your day, please bring something in during one of the remaining days of Christmas Drive.

SALT

The final round of the Fifa tournament will be held today in the cafeteria. 

 

All groups who have not picked up their Christmas shopping family information should do so today.  The Shopping day begins tomorrow in Daniel's hall at 9:00 a.m.  Each group should remember to bring their faith inspired Christmas Ornament to spread Christmas cheer while on the shopping trip.  If you have a parent driver, please invite them into St. Daniel's hall for coffee and a danish while they wait for you. 

Calling all SALT volunteers...you are needed for locker decorating during study halls or after school today.  See Mrs. Bedore.

Christmas Drive

Monday is comfy shoe day. For a $1 donation, you can wear boots, sneakers, slippers, or any other type of comfortable shoe (no sandals please) instead of your uniform shoe. Donations will be taken at the doors

The World Famous Whipped Cream Shots will be administered in M125 on Tues. Dec. 17th.

The library will hold a drawing for a $25.00 gift certificate to Anderson's Bookstore.  Entries are 2 for $1.00.  All proceeds go to the Christmas drive.  The drawing will be held on Friday, December 20.  The library is also selling locker organizers.  Pick one up for $1.00.  Proceeds will be donated to the Christmas drive
