Dean's Office Daily Announcements

CMAT
Reconciliation and Adoration will be available during periods D, E, and F.

Campus Ministry is taking a trip to St. Patrick's to visit with the residents on Thursday after school. Sign up is on the Service Opportunity Bulletin Board.

Students attending the Spring Break trip to Appalachia should meet in the chapel after school at 3:00 for a planning meeting.

Shadows
We would like to welcome our shadows from: Avery Coonley, Lisle HS, and Crone.

Parking Permits
The Deans' Office is pleased to announce that a limited number of parking permits for the St. Procopius Abbey lotwill now be made available.. To be considered for a permit, parents of licensed sophomore drivers must send an e-mail tomwiora@benet.orgexplaining what the extraordinary circumstances are that warrant the issuance of a permit. The deadline for requests is Friday, February 8 (a week from this Friday).

The cost of the permit is $125 dollars for the semester.

Josten's
Josten's will be on campus Friday, February 8th during lunch in St. Martin's lobby for ring service day.All students and staff are invited to have their Josten's ring inspected, polished, resized, and stone replaced if needed at no charge. New ring orders may be placed with a $50 down payment.

 

Football
There will be a meeting for all football players who signed up for EPP tomorrow morning at 7:20 in T115.

Hockey Game Fan Bus
A fan bus for this Friday's Benet hockey game at Soldier Field is currently being organized and sponsored by SG. The cost for the fan bus is $10. The bus will leave Benet at 5:00 on Friday and return to Benet following the game. To secure a seat, you must pick up a permission form in the Dean's office and return it along with $10 by Wednesday.

AMC Exam
Today is the deadline for registering for the annual AMC mathematics competition to be held tomorrow after school. See your math teacher for details.

Volunteer Hours
Do You need NHS hours? How about some free food and a t-shirt?
Sign up to volunteer for the Midwest Indoor Triathlon at Edward Health and Fitness Center at 7 bridges this Sunday Feb 10th.Volunteer's are needed from 7am to12 and 11am to 3pm. Sign up today outside the coach's office by the gym. Any questions, see Ms. Sayers

Sketch Comedy
Are you ever frustrated when you can't think of witty things to say in conversation, and then you think of something clever 20 minutes later and you laugh to yourself because you are clever but not clever enough? If you answered yes, no, or maybe to the above question, then come to the Sketch Comedy and Improv Club this Tuesday from 3:15-4:15 in T109.

International Culture Club
The International Culture Club will have a meeting this Wednesday from 3:00 - 4:00. Meeting room at S119, Mrs. Volin's Room. We'll be talking about some interesting winter holidays celebrated all over the world! New members are always welcome!

Broadcasting Club
Will have a meeting this Tuesday after school in library meeting room 2.

Students who are signed up to go to Our Lady of Angels on Saturday morning, please arrive at the back door by the cafe at 7:45 to get the bus, make sure permission forms are turned into Mrs. Bedore and dress for the weather!

Environmental Club

Boys' Basketball
The conference-leading boys' basketball team will host another crucial conference game tomorrow night against St. Viator. It's alumni night, so let's pack the gym. Sophomores and 6 and Varsity at 7:30.

Junior Ring and Medal Mass and Ceremony
Attention Juniors: Please note that the response cards indicating that you and your family will attend the Junior Ring and Medal Mass and Ceremony on Sunday, February 3rd were originally due no later than today. If you have forgotten to bring these to the Principal's Office, you must do so by tomorrow so that we can make arrangements for seating and prepare for the reception following Mass. Secondly, please note that you must arrive no later than 10:50 a.m. for Mass because you will be seated on stage in a prearranged order for ease of ring and medal distribution. And, finally, all participants should be dressed in their Sunday best for the occasion: gentlemen should wear shirts and ties with a sweater or jacket preferred and ladies should wear dress slacks and blouses or dresses in which they can sit comfortably on stage facing the audience for the entire Mass and ceremony -- nothing low cut or too short for the sake of modesty. Thanks, and we look forward to honoring you a week from Sunday.

 

Slop Day
Tomorrow is our Catholic Schools Week slop day. By making a minimum contribution of $2, students will be allowed to wear a tee shirt, sweat shirt, or hoodie of their favorite Catholic school whether it be grammar school, high school, or college. Also, instead of wearing uniform pants or skirts, students may wear jeans or sweat pants, tee shirts or sweatshirts, and gym shoes or sandals.
However,

· No shorts

· No flannel pants

· No pajama pants

· No leggings

· No yoga pants

· No Flip-flops or slippers

· No too-revealing attire

· Tee shirts and sweatshirts may not have any drug or alcohol references on them.

· Hats or other head-coverings may not be worn.

· All other regular appearance rules (such as young men being clean shaven) will apply.

Students with questions should ask one of the Deans.
All proceeds will benefit St. Gertrude's in Tanzania.

Detention
Detention will be held this Thursday from 3:05 to 3:30 in M26. The list is posted on the Deans' Office bulletin board. Just a couple of reminders that it has been over a month since detention was last held. Therefore, students who may have received a detention in December are listed for serving this week. Also, student conduct grades do NOT reset at the semester.

Math Competition
The annual AmericanMathematics Contest will be held next Tuesday, February 5thafter school. The AMC is a national mathematics exam held across the country that day. Its purpose is to promote problem solving in a competitive, fun, and friendly manner. Prizes will be awarded for the top three scores at Benet, as well as the top freshman and sophomore scores. Deadline for registration is Monday, Feb. 4th. See your math teacher for more details.

AP Courses
Please be aware that many of our Honors and AP courses require students turn in a recommendation form and or assignment to be considered for the class. Please log in to your edline account and click on the course request information folder to see the courses that require these forms. There are links to extra copies of these forms if you have misplaced these forms. The due date for all of these forms/assignments is Wednesday, January 30th.

If you have questions about your schedule, please see your counselor.

English Course Registration
Junior applications for Creative Writing, Advanced Placement English and Advanced Humanities are all due to English teacher by Wednesday, January 30.

ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS -- IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFO ABOUT SCIENCE:
Just a reminder that all purple science course request sheets are due to your science teacher NO LATER THAN 3 PM this Wednesday, Jan 30.
If your sheet is not received by that date, your science course will be chosen for you. Lists of students permitted to register for selected courses will be posted next Monday, Feb 4. Only those on the list can sign up for that class.

Also, if you are requesting 2 science courses, you MUST write that on your sheet and list your 1st choice and then your 2nd choice. We will create a wait list.You can only register online for one course. You will receive a Benet e-mail in March to let you know if there is space for you to double up and changes will be made by your counselor at that time!

I-355 Bus
Parents of students who ride the Train Shuttle and I-355 Bus – On Monday, January 28th, there will be NO late bus service to the Lisle station or the I-355 route. The morning and early afternoon routes will run as scheduled.

Scholarship
The National Exchange Club usually awards one Benet senior a $500 academic scholarship. Extracurricular activities are very important. To be considered you must attend an information meeting in the CCC on Tuesday, January, 29th, during homeroom. District winners are automatically entered in the national competition for a $10,000 scholarship

Environmental Club
The Environmental Club invites all students to participate in two upcoming service opportunities!
This Sunday morning, volunteers are needed to help restore native habitat at the Morton Arboretum from 10 am till noon. Sign up by Thursday on the Volunteer board and pick up a permission slip from Mrs. Volin's room.
Students are also invited to come out to SCARCE with the Club on Tuesday, February 5th to make supercrayons for disabled children. If you can help, sign up on the volunteer board, and be sure tobring a signedpermission slip.

International Culture Club

Attention students applying for NHS in March:

Boys' Basketball
Attention boys' basketball fans. Benet Academy will be participating in the National Guard High School Hoops Showdown this coming Saturday night at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates. Benet will be playing Naperville Central at 6:30 pm. The last time Benet played at the Sears Centre the Redwings defeated Simeon and we brought a huge crowd. Let's do it again. Come out and support the Redwings asthey play the Redhawks. Tickets can be purchased in the athletic office starting tomorrow, Wednesday, with seniors and juniors being able to buy tickets during theirrespective homeroom periods. Sophomores and freshmen can buy tickets on Thursday during their respective homeroom periods, if any presale tickets remain. Ticket prices are $11.00 for students. We have only a limited number of tickets for presale. Tickets should be available at the door. Avoid the lines and guarantee a seat by purchasing early.

We will extend the deadline for accepting senior quotes to be included in the yearbook. Please have your quote in by Jan 31st. Remember to keep it short and keep it clean. Any issues contact Kenzie Franklin or Courtney Oei.

Mass is being offered during 9th period.

Campus ministry needs your help after the holidays collecting Christmas cards for St. Jude's Ranch– please send in your Christmas cards instead of throwing them out!! The cards will be used by the children at St. Jude's Ranch to create new cards. The program is beneficial to everyone – customers receive fun, "green” holiday cards they can feel good sending to their friends and loved ones, and the children at St. Jude's Ranch receive payment for their work, learn about basic job skills, and the importance of recycling. ST. Jude's also accepts birthday, greeting, and all occasion cards.More details can be found on the service opportunity board. Turn your cards into the Dean's Office or the Campus Ministry office.

There will be a brief meeting after school today in the chapel for all students going on the March for Life withCampus Ministry.

Do you need to record your recycling hours from the fall?

Ornithology Club
The Ornithology Club invites you to join them for a Birdwalk with the DuPage Birding Club on Saturday, January 12that 8:30 A.M. at Cantigny Park in Wheaton.

Exam Cram
This Tuesday, head over to the Nichols Public Library for a program hosted for Benet students. There will be space to work by yourself or in groups, snacks, and even games for when you need a break. The time is 4:00-8:30.

Exam Information
If an exam is cancelled because of weather, the whole exam schedule will be pushed back a day, and Friday becomes an exam day.

Semester exam days are regular uniform days.

All hallways must be kept clear during each exam period.

If you do not have an exam scheduled during an exam period, you may leave campus. If you decide to stay or arrive early for an exam, you may study in groups in Alumni Gym or silently in the cafeteria.

Parking – Students who have permits for St. Procopius Abbey WILL be allowed to park on campus. However, make sure you do NOT park in a faculty/staff space. Students without permits are NOT permitted to park on campus during exams.

Juniors and Seniors: Pharmacy Career
Would you like to pursue a career in pharmacy?The application for theWalgreens/Osco Pharmacy Career Explorer Program for summer 2013 is now available in the CCC. During training you will work as a technician in a pharmacy. You will receive a stipend when you complete the program. You must have a minimum 85% GPA. Each summer some Benet students complete this course and usually obtain a part time job for the school year.

March for Life
Students and the parents of studentsattending the March for Life with Benet may attend a Diocesan informational meeting tonight at 7:00 at St. Charles Borromeo. Students going on the Marchshould also plan on attending a brief meeting in the chapel on Friday after school.

Peer Tutoring
This is a final reminder that any student who had a peer tutor for semester one and wishes to continue with tutoring for semester two needs to check with their peer tutor to see if they are available to do this. If the peer tutor can continue, you should see your counselor to make the necessary arrangements. If you do not see your counselor, you will not be scheduled for next semester. Any questions, please see your counselor.

Entrance Exam Volunteers
The Recruitment Office is looking for volunteers to assist with the entrance exam this Saturday, January 12th. The sign-up sheet is in the Recruitment Office not the Dean's Office.
