Art Show

Girl’s JVA Lacrosse

If anyone on the JVA Girl’s Lacrosse team ordered sweatshirts, pick them up in the Dean’s Office.

NHS

Congratulations to the new NHS Executive Board!  The list is now posted on the service project bulletin board.  See you at the induction ceremony.

Prom

A list of table assignments for prom is posted on the SG office window. Those attending prom should stop by today to make sure you are at a table. Also, please verify your name is spelled correctly and let someone in the office know if changes need to be made.

Guitar Club

Guitar Club, featuring Muse and Art Club, will be having its Spring Concert this Saturday at 7 pm in St. Daniel's Hall.  Doors open at 6:30 and tickets are $5.

Guitar Club will have a very brief but mandatory meeting immediately after school today in Mr. Akin's room.

Broadcasting Club

The Broadcasting Club needs one more announcer for the varsity baseball game tomorrow morning at 10. If you are interested, contact Illia Dragan Lukić via Benet Email. The first person to reply gets the position.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Tomorrow there will be a cookout in the parking lot to celebrate the first lacrosse games played at Benet's football stadium. The frosh start things going at 10am, JV plays at 11:30 and Varsity at 1:00pm. The grills will be going -stop by and have lunch and cheer on the best lacrosse teams in the state! Go Redwings!

Yearbook

Yearbook will be meeting today after school,  New members are always needed.  Join us in library lab 2.

Yearbook is accepting editor applications.  Please stop by S207 or at one of our after school meetings for an application.

Lastly, yearbook camp is July 27-29 at North Central College anyone wishing to attend needs to stop by S207 for registration information.

Sochop

The final soc hop of the year will take place today from 8:00 - 10:30. The theme is Cinco de Mayo and it will be DJed by our own Phil Parisi. Admission is $5, but we are also looking for help gathering clothing and toy donations for the summer service trip to Guatemala. Therefore, if you bring either gently used small toys or clothes to donate, admission will be cut to $2. Hope to see you there!

Environmental Club

Volunteers are needed at the DuPage River Sweep on Saturday, May 17th.  Benet has been assigned a section of the DuPage River at Community Park in Lisle to clean up.  If you can help between 9 and 12 on the 17th, sign up now on the Service Bulletin Board!

Parking Permit Applications

The link for applying for a 2014-2015 parking permit is now open and will remain open until the last day of this school year. The link can be found on the main page of the Benet.org website and also at the Dean's Office page under Administration. Encourage your parents to apply before the link is closed at midnight on June 6th.

SALT

Sign ups are available for Gardening in the Grotto of Sacred Heart Monastery on Tuesday, May 20th after school.  After gardening, we will enjoy cookies & lemonade and a walk around the grounds.

Villa St. Benedict is also looking for help with set up or volunteers to enjoy a Garden Picnic with VSB residents on June 27th or 28th.  For planning purposes, Villa St. Benedict needs to know about volunteers by May 16th.  The hours are flexible, the outdoor activities are fun, and if you stay for the picnic, the food will be great!  This is a great way to get NHS service hours for next year without school year demands!

There will be NO angel visits at Villa St. Benedict's today.

Visiting with the guests of National Alliance for the Mentally Ill is this evening from 6:45-8:15 in Naperville.  Sign up is on the Bulletin Board in St. Joseph Hall.

Come out and support your Senior Redwing Lacrosse Players! Thursday, May 8 is Senior Night as Benet takes on Nazareth at Benedictine Stadium. Ceremony begins at 7:45; game starts at 8. Let's give the Seniors a send-off they won't forget!

Cheer on the Benet boy's lacrosse team this Saturday, May 10 as the Frosh, JV and Varsity play at Benet in Baumgartner football stadium for the first time ever! We'll be celebrating with a cookout in the parking lot during the games. See the Frosh at 10, JV at 11:30, and Varsity at 1pm as they play Lake Zurich in their quest for state domination! Join us for food, fun and lots of winning lacrosse on Saturday!

Best Photo Contest

Today will be the last day to submit pictures for the Benet Photo Contest. The winner will be announced tomorrow. Please email all pictures to Mr. Gaughan's email address. 

Prom

Today is the LAST day to buy prom tickets. Tickets will only be on sale during lunch, and you must have both your and your dates forms to purchase these. Table reservation forms are also due by today, and can be turned in during lunch as well.

How would you like to get outside, wade in the river, have fun with friends, and help improve the environment all at the same time??   Students are needed to work at the DuPage County River Sweep on the morning of Saturday May 17th at Community Park in Lisle.  Check out the Service Bulletin Board or the Environmental Club's edline page for information and to sign up!

Math Team

The Math Team finished in 9th place at the state competition on Saturday. Of particular note: Senior Jack Stucky finished 1st in the oral competition.  Juniors Matt Rossi and Max Helfers finished second in the Junior-Senior 2-person competition.

Due to AP testing tomorrow, May 6, the library will be closed before school through G period.  Do not come for any reason.  There will be no access to the library or labs during the testing session.  Please plan accordingly.

SALT is headed to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Naperville on Wednesday, May 7th from 6:45-8:15 to play games and celebrate birthdays with their guests.  Join us!

Yearbook

Attention Boys Freshman baseball teams A/B.  The yearbook is in need of candid pictures as well as a team picture.   You will make your mothers happy if you ask them for pictures.   Please email any pictures to lriedy@benet.org.

It's time to start working on the yearbook supplement.  This contains spring sports, prom and graduation.  Come join us Wednesdays and Fridays after school in Library Lab 2.  If you are in a spring sport and want to be sure your sport is included then please email Mercede Doran or Kaitlin Boehm pictures.

Environmental Club

Do you need service hours?  Do you want to help the environment?  Or do you just want to have fun outside in the beautiful setting of the Morton Arboretum? Today is your last chance to sign up to help restore a natural habitat on Sunday from 10-12:30 at the arboretum.  Information is on the Service Bulletin Board. 

You are also invited to come out to SCARCE in Glen Ellyn to make SuperCrayons, which are then given to severely disabled children.  This event takes place Tuesday from 3:30-5:30.  Sign up and information is on the Service Bulletin Board for this opportunity as well.

Currently the forecast for Saturday is 68 degrees and sunny and SALT is headed to Our Lady of Angels food pantry in Chicago on Saturday from 7:45 to approximately noon, join us to distribute food, clothing, and household items to local neighbors.  What better way to spend your morning then bringing a little sunshine in the midst of all the rain? 

SALT is also headed to National Alliance for the Mentally Ill on Wednesday, May 7th from 6:45 to 8:15.

Guatemala Service Trip

There will be a meeting today at 5:30 pm for those going on the Guatemala trip in Senor Frey's room. We will be discussing our final itinerary and fundraising opportunities. Parents are welcome to attend as well. If you can't make it, please see Senor or Mr. Frey today.

Best Photo Contest

The Social Media Club is running a contest for the Best Benet Photo.

Photos should be emailed to Mr. Gaughan.  The winner will be announced on May 8th. 

Photos may include pictures from dances, activities, athletic contest etc.

Boys’ Lacrosse

If you haven’t seen boys lacrosse, you haven’t seen all the sports at Benet. Tonight the Frosh, the undefeated JV and Varsity teams are playing Neuqua Valley over at Benedictine University. Frosh starts at 5:30 in the corner field, JV and Varsity will be at the Stadium at 6:30 and 8:15. Go and find out what lacrosse is all about and cheer Benet on! Go Redwings!

Philosophy Club

Attention juniors: Do you often find yourself feeling bored on Friday nights? Are you sick of walking around downtown Naperville every weekend? Still need a prom date but having met the right junior yet?? Then come to Catalyst this Friday May 2nd.  Applications are now available in the dean's office. Participation is limited to the first 25 guys and 25 girls. Questions, see Miss Condon.

SG

Today is the last day to register for Friday's senior outing. Registration will close after today, so if you haven't signed up, make sure to do so tonight.

Student Government Applications are out. Your new SG President and Vice President encourage next year's Juniors and  Seniors to apply for either a Head of a Committee or for a position on the Executive Board. Forms are available in the Dean's Office, and can be turned to in to the SG Office. The application deadline has been moved back to next week Monday, May 5th.

Back by popular demand, there will be a spring soc-hop next Friday, May 9th. President-Elect DJ Phil Parisi will be mixing tunes for the night, so don't miss out on a party that's sure to be filled with good music, entertainment, and a lot of dancing.

Tickets for this year's prom "Don't You Forget About Me" will go on sale tomorrow during lunch. Tickets cost $180 if purchased by Thursday. You must bring both permission forms in order to buy a ticket.

Environmental Club

A reminder that volunteers are needed for upcoming environmental activities:

1. Help is needed this Sunday from 10-12:30 at the Morton Arboretum working to restore a natural habitat.   

2. Next Tuesday, May 6th, come to SCARCE to make SuperCrayons from 3:30-5:30.

3. Saturday May 17th is the annual DuPage River Sweep.  Benet is teaming with St. Joan of Arc parish to clean up the DuPage River in Community Park in Lisle from 9 till noon on that day.

Senior Outing

All seniors should report to the small gym tomorrow morning between 7:30 and 7:45 am. Bring everything with you that you will be taking on the outing. We will run check-in from the small gym and will then leave for the buses from there as well.

It's time to start working on the yearbook supplement.  This contains spring sports, prom and graduation.  Come join us Wednesdays and Fridays after school in Library Lab 2.  If you are in a spring sport and want to be sure your sport is included then please email Mercede Doran or Kaitlin Boehm pictures.  Thanks

Parking Permit Applications

The link for applying for a 2014-2015 parking permit is now open and will remain open until the last day of this school year. The link can be found on the main page of the Benet.org website and also at the Dean's Office page under Administration. Encourage your parents to apply before the link is closed at midnight on June 6th.

SALT

Currently the forecast for Saturday is 68 degrees and sunny and SALT is headed to Our Lady of Angels food pantry in Chicago on Saturday from 7:45 to approximately noon, join us to distribute food, clothing, and household items to local neighbors.  What better way to spend your morning then bringing a little sunshine in the midst of all the rain? 

SALT is also headed to National Alliance for the Mentally Ill on Wednesday, May 7th from 6:45 to 8:15. 

Juniors:  Eucharistic Minister applications for the 2014-2015 school year are due tomorrow!

Attention all students who would like to WITHDRAW from an AP Exam-- Thursday, May 1st is the deadline to withdraw and receive a refund of $74 per test. Written permission from a parent must be provided. Please see Mrs. Novak in Mrs. Kothe's office with any questions.

SALT would like you to Check out pictures posted on the bulletin board near the Service board which features our friends from St. Gertrude's as they thank you for textbooks donated to the Tanzanian high school from Benet Academy.  You can also see videos containing "Thank Yous" in your Benet email or posted to Benet's website.  To see other Thank Yous from MANY organizations which have benefited from your generosity, see the smaller glass bulletin board in St. Joseph hall.

S.A.L.T.'s Emmaus walk originally scheduled for today after school has been rescheduled for next Tuesday.  In its place, SALT will be hosting a prayer for individuals with mental illness tomorrow after school in the chapel. So many people are touched by the lives of those who suffer.   Join us to pray with those who long for a sense of peace and happiness in their day to day lives.

The S.A.L.T. dignity trip to Our Lady of Angels food pantry is this Saturday, May 3rd from 7:45-12:00.  Sign-up is on the bulletin board in St. Joseph hall.

Need to get those NHS hours in?  Angel visits after school at VSB continue to occur from today through Thursday.

Continue signing up to be a ball girl or boy at the girls home varsity games!
