Mother / Daughter Fashion Show

Benet Senior Girls,

You are invited to be a Benet top model at the mother/daughter fashion show to be held on Sunday, March 23.  Sign up in the cafeteria during lunch on February 10th, 11th, or 13th.

NHS Hour Opportunity

Blanket Babes will be after school in the library next Tuesday, February 11th; make fleece blankets for an hour of service.

Boys’ Volleyball

There is open gym for boys volleyball this Sunday from 7-9 pm.

Social Media Club

Benet Academy will be starting up a Social Media Club.  The first meeting will be next Wednesday morning, at 7:15am in Library Lab #2.

Yard Signs

Yard signs celebrating the class of 2014's June 1st graduation are now available for order!  Signs are $20 each. Order by 2/28 using a form found on the Mothers Club website and also in the Dean's office. 

Voter Registration

Voter Registration will take place next Monday,February 10th,  during  periods D-G (4-7) in St. Martin's Lobby.  Any student who will be 18  on or before Nov. 4 is eligible to register to vote.  You must have two forms of ID in order to register.

Boys’ Swimming

Come support the Boys Swim Team this weekend at their conference meets. Varsity Conference Saturday at Fenwick High School-- JV Conference Sunday at Marmion Academy-- Both Swim Meets begin at 10:00AM

 Medical Club

There will be a Medical Club meeting next Tuesday at 7:20.  We will be discussing our next dissection.

Book Club

The next book club book will be Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. There will also be a brief meeting next Monday, February 10th immediately after school in Mr. Stracco's room for yearbook pictures.

Broadcasting Club

There will be a Broadcasting Club next Wednesday after school.  Contact Illia Dragan Lukić for info.

SALT

There are a few spaces still open for SALT trip to Feed My Starving on February 19th. Join SALT for a general meeting on Tuesday, February 11th after school in J307.

The Benet Academy Chess Team swept the Far Side Suburban Chess Conference with a  perfect 8 - 0 conference record and also was crowned conference tournament champions  with 21 wins and 1 draw opposite just 2 losses.  The Benet Chess Team will take a run at a State Championship in Peoria next week. Go Redwings!

Girls’ Basketball

Tomorrow night, Tuesday, is our lady redwings senior night! Come at 645 to support our seniors!

Broadcasting Club

There will be a broadcasting club meeting tomorrow after school in meeting room 2 in the library.

Math Team

Math team members are reminded that the AMC exam will take place Tuesday after school. Please meet in room M225 immediately after school. If you cannot come to the exam, please see Mr. Schacht or your math team coach.

 

Also, there is a math team meet Wednesday after school. The bus will leave at 4:00pm.

LOGOS

LOGOS Third day reunion for all those who attended or led. Logos 106 through 109.  Thursday after school in the Chapel beginning at 3:15 pm.

Junior and Senior Girls

The Naperville American Association of University Women is sponsoring a program for junior and senior girls and their parents entitled "What I wish I had known before going to college" This program will be held at North Central College on Saturday, March 22nd from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm. Interested young ladies can pick up a registration form here at the Deans' Office.

Math Team

Attention Math Team members. The AMC examination will be administered next Tuesday after school. Please see Mr. Schacht or your coach if you will be unable to take the exam.

Naperville Rugby Club

Anyone interested in playing rugby for the Naperville Rugby Club should come to an informational meeting this Wednesday, February 5th, at 3:30 pm in S119.  If you cannot attend the meeting please see Mr. Goforth to get your contact information which can be passed along to the coaches.

Boys’ Basketball

The boys' basketball team will be playing in the Batavia Night of Hoops this coming Saturday afternoon.  The boys will be playing one of the top rated teams in the state, Stevenson High School.  Game time for the varsity is 4:30 pm.  The sophomore boys will also be playing  at Batavia.  Their game will be a 12:00 pm start.  Pre-sale tickets  can be purchased in the athletic office at anytime through Thursday.  All tickets are $7.00.

Environmental Club

Environmental Club will meet tomorrow after school in Mrs. Volin’s room.

Scholarship Opportunity

The National Exchange Club usually awards one Benet senior a $1,000 academic scholarship. Extracurricular activities are very important. To be considered you must attend an information meeting in the CCC on this Thursday, January, 23th, during homeroom. District winners are automatically entered in the national competition for a $10,000 scholarship.

Boys’ Swimming

SENIOR NIGHT:  The Benet Boys Swim Team will celebrate Senior Night on Thursday Jan. 30th at the West Chicago Meet.  Please come out to support our Seniors:  Brad Becker, Paddy Lawler and Stephen Spittler.

Meet begins at 5:00pm at West Chicago High School.

Ring Ceremony

All juniors are reminded that their RSVPs for this Sunday's Junior Ring and Medal Mass were due on Monday. If you and your families are intending to attend but have not yet replied, please make sure you have RSVPd to the Principal's Office no later than tomorrow. Secondly, please note that you must arrive on Sunday no later than 10:50 a.m. for Mass because you will be seated on stage in a prearranged order for ease of ring and medal distribution. And, finally, all participants should be dressed in their Sunday best for this occasion: gentlemen should wear shirts and ties with a sweater or jacket preferred and ladies should wear slacks and blouses or dresses in which they can sit comfortably on stage facing the audience for the entire Mass and ceremony -- nothing low cut or too short for the sake of modesty. Thanks, and we look forward to honoring you this coming Sunday.

Junior and Senior Girls

SALT

Angel Visits for Villa St. Benedict will begin on Thursday immediately after school.  If you would like to bring some warmth to somone's day, sign up for most Tuesdays, Wednesday, or Thursdays in the month to bring cookies and converstaion to residents at Villa St. Benedicts who seldom have companionship. 

Items such as sandals, paintings, necklaces, and t shirts brought to us by Sr. Afra from Tanzania will be on sale in the lunchroom during 5th and 6th period.  Proceeds will go to St. Gertrude's Benedictine High School in Imiliwaha. 

Tomorrow, Thursday, will be a Benet Community Adoration,  Bring your family or your Benet friends and pack the chapel for Adoration from 3:00-8:00.  A pizza dinner with dessert is planned from 5:00-6:00.  Please sign up for dinner on the Benet website.  If you wish to volunteer for greeting people on Thursday, sign up on the service bulletin board.

Feel Good this Friday by participating in a day of Service during your studyhalls or homerooms.  Make a blanket for Blanket Babes, communication devices for people with Autism, or a doll for children in Haiti while enjoying time with friends, snacks, and music. Ask your study hall monitor to sign out and report to the St. Joseph Conference room on the 2nd floor.

Girls’ Soccer

There is a mandatory meeting for junior and senior soccer girls on Thursday, January 23 at 3:10 in the small gym meeting room.

Boys’ Basketball

The boys basketball team will play Milwaukee Washington this Saturday at 6:30 at Hinsdale Central. Washington features Kevon Looney, one of the top players in the country. Tickets are available during all lunch periods.

Freshman Baseball

All freshmen interested in playing baseball this spring should attend a meting on Tuesday, January 21st during 5A in Room J307.  Any questions see Coach Kazlauskas.

Voter Registration

Seniors can register to vote on Monday, January 27th during periods 4 – 7.  In order to register you must be 18 on or before November 4th, 2014, and you need to bring 2 forms of identification with you, one of which with your address.  Also, 17 year olds will be able to vote in the upcoming March primary election.  Please see Mr. Noel with questions. 

Catalyst

Broadcasting Club

Art Students

Detention

There will be detention tomorrow in M26.  Due to a large number of detentions, the list is split between this and next Thursday, so look at the lists carefully.

SALT

Villa St. Benedict's is looking for a few Redwinged angels to visit with their residents!  As part of their angel program, 1 or 2 students would bring a cart of tea, cocoa, cookies, and conversation to residents who seldom receive visitors or get out of their room.  Redwing Angels would visit on any day Monday through Thursday after school. Sign up on the service bulletin board. Students should come in the Benedale entrance, south side of the building under the Burgandy Canopy to the concierge desk and ask for Bob Clark.

This Saturday the boys' basketball team will playing Milwaukee Hamilton in The High School Hoops Showdown at 6:30 at Hinsdale Central High School. Milwaukee Hamilton features future NBA prospect  Kevon Looney, a 6-10 power forward, who is currently considered one of the top players in the country. Tickets will be available in lunch periods this week

Senior Yearbook Ads

Attention senior, the flyers for senior ads in the yearbook have arrived please stop in the business office, deans office, or S207 to pick one up.  Last day to order is Jan 22, 2014.

Summer Service Trip

Any junior interested in a summer service trip to Guatemala this June must attend an informational meeting next Wednesday after the second exam or Thursday at 7:10 in room M23.  Any questions, see Senor Frey.  Attendance in mandatory if you are interested in this trip.

Entrance Exam

Proctors and NHS Volunteers are asked to park in St. Daniel’s.  NHS Volunteers must wear the Benet uniform and arrive at 7:45 in the Recruitment Office.

Football

There will be a brief meeting after school today for all football players participating in the off-season weight lifting program.  The meeting will begin at 3:10 in the multi-media lab.

Freshman Baseball

All freshmen interested in playing baseball this spring should attend a meting on Tuesday, January 21st during 5A in Room J307.  Any questions see Coach Kazlauskas.

Sophomore Girls’ Soccer

There will be a brief meeting for all  sophomore girls who are interested or planning to try out for soccer this spring.  the meeting will be in M25 during HR on Friday  jan 10th.  if you have any questions, please see Ms Sayers

Peer Tutoring

Any student who had a peer tutor for first semester and wishes to continue with tutoring for second semester needs to check with their peer tutor to see if they are available to do this. If your peer tutor is able to continue tutoring for second semester, you should see your counselor to make the necessary arrangements. If you do not see your counselor, you will not be scheduled for peer tutoring for second semester. Any questions, please see your counselor.

Girls’ Golf

If anyone on the Girls’ Golf Team hasn’t picked up their sweatshirt, you can pick it up in Ms. Carlevato’s office.

SALT

TeenSpeak, Illinois' largest prolife convention, is coming up February 1st from 9 to 3 at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare Hotel.  This year's convention, Pro-Life Knowledge is Power, features Viki Thorn, Founder of Project Rachel, one of the world's largest post-abortion ministries.  Vicki loves speaking to teens and sharing the amazing biochemistry of attachment and bonding between men and women, between parents and children.  Sessions will be available for both teens and adults.  See Mrs. Bedore or the Service Bulletin Board for Registration and Permission forms. 

Notre Dame Vision is a Catholic Youth Conference where High schoolers can explore the lifelong relationship between God's call and our response.  All baptized Christians share a common vocation to holiness and yet we are each given unique ways to respond to God's call in our lives.  Brochures are available at the SALT office and at the Service bulletin board.

Attention senior, the flyers for senior ads in the yearbook have arrived please stop in the business office, deans office, or S207 to pick one up.  Last day to order is Jan 22, 2014.

Environmental Club

All students are invited to come out to SCARCE in Glen Ellyn after school on Tuesday, January 7th to make SuperCrayons!  This date is the day after we get back from Christmas break so be sure to mark your calendar now so you don't forget!   Sign up on the Service Bulletin Board now!

Benet Broadcasting...It's a lot like the Christmas Drive, but not really at all

SALT

SALT invites you to help Giant Steps School and people with autism over Christmas break.  Giant Steps is running 6 days of DAY CAMP on Dec. 23rd, 26th, 30th, 31st, January 2nd and 3rd. These dates are on the Giant Steps VolunteerSpot activity calendar and a list is also on the service bulletin board. Times are 9:00am-3:00pm, but you may be able to volunteer for a shorter amount of time. 

Make plans now to start the new year off with a generous spirit by spending a portion of your day at Villa St. Benedict after school until 4:30 or at the National Alliance for the Mentally ill from 7:00-8:30  on Wednesday, January 8th .
