Spring Musical
The Cast of the Musical would like to congratulate the boys basketball team on their win last night.  Any students who purchased tickets for Friday's performance of 42nd Street, but would now like to go cheer on the basketball team, can exchange their ticket for either of the Thursday performances. Students must bring their tickets with them to exchange.  Tickets may be exchanged or purchased every school day between 11am and 1pm in the lobby of St. Martin Hall.

Science Alliance
Science Alliance will meet tomorrow in Room T112 at 3:15.  All members are invited to come to celebrate the victories that students achieved at last Saturday's tournament and of all this year's competitions.  Pizza will be served!!

Those who submitted audition forms for this year's variety show should check the SG office window for the audition schedule. If changes need to be made, please see Annie Hennessy or Izzy Hanson as soon as possible to arrange these.  

SALT

Sign up at the service board in St. Joseph's for Villa St. Benedict's game day on Wednesday, Marcy 19th or Angel Visits any Tuesday-Thursday after school.

SALT will be taking a prayer journey on the labyrinth tomorrow, Thursday, after school.  Destination?  God!  Join us in the chapel to experience this wonderful form of prayer.

Tickets for the Musical - 42nd Street - are selling fast. All shows are sold out except for the 2 Thursday performances. Get your tickets today during lunch if you haven't purchased them yet.  It is a great show - Don't miss it!

Science Alliance
All Science Alliance members are invited to this week's meeting which will be held on Thursday instead of Wednesday due to faculty meetings being held tomorrow.

The meeting will be held at 3:15 in Room T112.  Refreshments will be served. 

SALT
Thursday after school, SALT will offer and opportunity to learn about Labyrinth prayer and walk the labyrinth in the chapel.  Take the time this Lent to experience a form of prayer that helps lift mind, body, and spirit to the Lord. 

There is a meeting after school today in J307 for all students attending the Spring Break trip to Appalachia.

Hockey
Thanks to all of the students who came out on Saturday night to cheer their hockey team on in the Kennedy cup finals!  Tonight the Team takes on Providence in the elite eight State playoff game at the Edge Ice arena in Bensenville at 835pm

CML Activewear
This Saturday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to noon, CML Activewear will be holding an inventory sale, in which everything must go.  Benet families can purchase new apparel at discounted prices.  The sale will take place in St. Ronald Lobby.

Ornithology
The Ornithology Club and Environmental Club wish to welcome all interested students to a Bird Walk tomorrow morning at 11 am at Cantigny in Winfield.  This is your opportunity to see dozens of local birds in their natural habitat.  The walk will be led by The DuPage Birding Club and is being held EXCLUSIVELY for Benet students!  You will be able to borrow a pair of binoculars from the club, or as they say in the Ornithology Club, it's better to "BYOB"   Just meet at the Visitors Center at 11 am tomorrow for a great morning of Bird-Watching!!  More details are available on the Ornithology Club's edline page.   

Benet Bowling
Spring Training is here, and Benet Bowling is back! Come throw some balls and strikes today at 3:30 at Lisle Lanes. Cost to bowl is $7. Benet Bowling: Like White Sox slugger Adam Dunn, but with fewer strike-outs in the 10th frame.

Next practice will be Monday at 3:15 in SJC.

Guitar Club

Guitar Club will meet Thursday after school.  Please see Mr. Akin with any questions.

CML Activewear
This Saturday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to noon, CML Activewear will be holding an inventory sale, in which everything must go.  Benet families can purchase new apparel at discounted prices.  The sale will take place in St. Ronald Lobby. 

Prayer Group
The prayer group for those who have died will meet Friday this week during Period 5A in the Green Room on the 3rd floor of St. Joseph's Hall.  All are invited for this brief prayer service.  We are approaching 100 people to pray for, but there is room for more--see Mr. O'Donnell if you'd like to include any names on the list.

Envirothon
There will be a brief meeting of the Envirothon team at 3:15 in Mrs. Volin's room.  The team will discuss upcoming practice activities as well as planning for next month's competition.  Anyone that cannot make today's meeting should see Mrs. Volin for information.  

Recycling
Anyone applying to the NHS in 2 weeks - Today and next Thursday will be the last opportunities to earn NHS service hours before the application deadline.  Join us in T110 after school TODAY and next Thursday if you want to help.

Also, any new NHS members who come to recycle after March 20, can use those hours toward the required 10 hours in the fall.  So get an early start on that requirement.

Career Speaker Program

Our new Career Speaker program begins this Thursday during the lunch/homeroom periods.  Our first alumni speakers will discuss the career fields of Architecture and Design.  You must sign up by the end of the day on Tuesday on the sheets posted outside Mrs. Eckert's office to reserve your seat. Please refer to the email that was sent to you for more specific information on the speakers and their careers. Listen to the announcements on Thursday for the location of the speaker session. Please remember that if you are in a lab, chorus, or Madrigals, you will only be able to join the session during your lunch period, but will still need to sign up to reserve a seat.  Questions, please see Mrs. Eckert.

Science Alliance

Science Alliance members who are competing in the Regional Tournament on Saturday should attend today's mandatory meeting in T112 at 3:15.  Competitors are also reminded to bring the 3 SIGNED forms required for the tournament, and turn them in to Mrs. Volin.

NHS students who would like to volunteer this Saturday at College of DuPage at the Regional Science Olympiad Tournament can sign up today or tomorrow with Mrs. Volin.  Help is needed with registration and with timing events.  NHS service hours are available. 

All students who are part of this year's Envirothon team should attend a meeting tomorrow in Mrs. Volin's room at 3:15 pm.  Any team member who cannot attend should contact Mrs. Volin for details prior to the meeting.

Philosophy Club

The Philosophy Club will meet this Friday morning at 7:10 in J119. The question being discussed is “What is love?” There will be a trivial number of donuts present at the meeting, so make sure to show up on time as they will go quickly! For questions see Jon Kruppe or Michael Tempestini.

Mr. Redwing

Attention Seniors: The 2014 Mr. Redwing Pageant is coming up at the end of March. We are requesting that each captain and club president send in a nominee to represent them in the pageant. SALT will host a Lenten Labyrinth prayer walk after school on Thursday, March 13th in the chapel.  Join us to experience this beautiful form of prayer which engages the body and spirit as you reflect on your life's journey. 

There is a birthday party going on tonight at National Alliance for the Mentally ill.  Join them for crafts and cake from 6:45-8:15 at the Alfred Rubin Center in Naperville.  Sign up is on the service bulletin board.

SALT is looking for a few angels to visit Villa St. Benedict residents who seldom have company.  Visits can take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays right after school throughout the month according to when you are available.  Sign up is on the service bulletin board.

Career Speaker Program

Our new Career Speaker program begins this Thursday during the lunch/homeroom periods.  Our first alumni speakers will discuss the career fields of Architecture and Design.  You must sign up by the end of the day on Tuesday on the sheets posted outside Mrs. Eckert's office to reserve your seat. Please refer to the email that was sent to you for more specific information on the speakers and their careers. Listen to the announcements on Thursday for the location of the speaker session. Please remember that if you are in a lab, chorus, or Madrigals, you will only be able to join the session during your lunch period, but will still need to sign up to reserve a seat.  Questions, please see Mrs. Eckert.

Film Club

Film club will be watching "Gravity" on Wednesday. Room m121. New members always welcome.

NHS Blood Drive

NHS will sponsor a Blood Drive on Friday, March 14th.  A sign-up table will be in the cafeteria during 6th period Wednesday, March 5th through Tuesday, March 11th.  Permission Slips will be available in the Dean's Office and at the sign-up table--donors must be at least 16 years old.

Science Alliance

Science Alliance members who are competing this Saturday at the Regional Tournament should plan to attend the brief meeting after school tomorrow in Mr.  Marshall's room at 3:15. 

 

In addition, competitors are reminded that you need to turn in 3 forms SIGNED BY YOUR PARENT(S) by tomorrow as well.  These forms can be downloaded from Edline.  Submit the signed forms to Mrs. Volin. 

Broadcasting Club

There will be a Broadcasting Club meeting tomorrow before school at 7:25 in Meeting Room 2 in the library.

3 v 3 Basketball

Sign up now for the 3-on-3 Basketball tournament on March 15th at 6pm!

The cost is 15 dollars and the prize is gift cards to Buffalo Wild Wings.

NHS Service Hour Opportunity

The Kiwani Pancake Festival at Naperville Central is on March 15th and is in need of volunteers! There are two 3 hour shifts to help out with this event. Volunteers will receive a complementary breakfast as well! Sign up on the service bulletin board and ends March 10th. Contact Alicia Krebs with any questions.

Benet Herald

The Benet Herald editors are hosting a "pick an article" session for the April issue of the Benet Herald on Wednesday from 3:00-3:30pm in the library.  All are welcome.

Political Club

The political club will host a guest speaker this Wednesday after school in room B301.  Benet alum, and former teacher, Larry Socha who is now in the foreign service and recently completed an assignment in Ukraine will talk about the current crisis there along with his his experiences and answer any questions about the foreign service as a career.

Mr. Redwing

Attention Seniors: The 2014 Mr. Redwing Pageant is coming up at the end of March. We are requesting that each captain and club president send in a nominee to represent them in the pageant. We will also be taking individual nominations during lunch on Wednesday and Thursday. Please email Abby O’Connor or Katy Grunenwald with your nominations. Thank you.

Student Government
The variety show is coming up fast. Auditions are on March 17 & 18. The forms are in the Deans office and will be due THIS FRIDAY the 7th.

Join SALT at the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill on Wednesday, March 5th from 6:45-8:15 for games, a birthday celebration, and crafts.  Sign up is on the service bulletin board.    Join S.A.L.T. this Saturday in serving our brothers and sisters in Christ at Our Lady of Angels Food Pantry this Saturday, March 1st from 7:45 a.m. to noon.  Transportation is provided, sign up and permission forms are on the service bulletin board.

To celebrate Fat Tuesday, Paczki (pronounced punchkey) will be sold tomorrow in the cafeteria for one dollar.    For those of you who don’t know, a paczki is like a polish donut and is totally delicious! Don’t forget to bring your dollar to lunch tomorrow!!

NHS

The next NHS trip to Ronald McDonald House will be this coming Tuesday, March 4th.  For this service project, we cook dinner for the families who are staying at the House while their children receive long term care at Loyola Hospital.  Sign up on the service project bulletin board.  Space is limited to only 10 volunteers.

Mardi Gras

Members of the French and German Clubs will celebrate Mardi Gras on Tuesday, March 4th in room M24 from 7:10 a.m. to 7:40 a.m.   Please see your French or German teacher by Thursday, February 27th if you plan to attend.

Uniforms

As noted in the newsletter from Mr. Marth, Benet Academy will be changing uniform vendors at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Uniforms from our current company, CML Activewear, will be grandfathered in and may be worn for the next 4 years. The new uniform vendor will be Lands’ End as of 2014-2015. Lands’ End will be hosting a fit event at Benet Academy in order for your son or daughter to try on the uniform. They have requested to send out a quick survey to see how many families plan on attending the fit event. Please use the link in this email to provide them with the appropriate information. The last day of the survey will be March 3rd.

The details of the event are as follows:

Where: Benet Academy Gym Lobby

When: Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22

Time: Friday: 4 pm – 7 pm

           Saturday: 8 am – 4 pm

If you are unable to attend the fit event, our online store is projected to be open in early spring. We will send an email out once the online store is open.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Tryouts for girls lacrosse start next week on Monday, March 3rd. Check your emails for more information.

Recycling Club

We will do recycling tomorrow Thursday and will need a lot of help.  If you still need NHS hours or just want to help out, please meet in T110 after school tomorrow.

Boys’ Volleyball

There will be an open gym this Sunday from 7 to 9.

Softball

Softball tryouts for both varsity and JV begin Monday from 3:30 – 6:30 pm in the alumni gym.

Boys’ Tennis

All boys trying out for tennis on Monday should meet on the stage in the small gym.  Be there by 3:15 with all the necessary forms.  Be dressed to work out.  We will finish around 4:00.

SALT

The Freshman homeroom Mass will occur during period E1 on Thursday rather than E2 to accomodate the college couseling fair.  All Freshman are invited to attend.

Those signed up to help with Our Lady of Angels Food Pantry should remember to turn in  a permission form before going, meet the Benet bus at 7:45 by the back entrance near the cafeteria, and should dress for the weather on Saturday morning as we will be out doors for the entire morning.  Finally, check your Benet email for more details.
