Abbot Hugh Anderson, O.S.B. to be Appointed President of Benet Academy
Benet Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of Abbot
Hugh Anderson, O.S.B. as the third President of Benet Academy.
Abbot Hugh will officially assume his new position later
this month following a formal appointment by Abbot Austin Murphy, O.S.B., the
current Abbot of St. Procopius Abbey, and the Benet Academy Board of Directors.
Abbot Hugh generously expressed his willingness to serve in
this expanded role while retaining his current responsibilities as Congregation
President of the American Cassinese Association of Benedictine Monasteries, a
position he has held since 2010.
Born in Ohio, Illinois, Abbot Hugh professed vows as a monk
of St. Procopius Abbey in June of 1959 and was subsequently ordained a priest
in May of 1965. He was elected as the 8th Abbot of St. Procopius
Abbey in 1985 and served in that capacity until December of 2002. Abbot Hugh
has a long and distinguished association with Benet, having served as Assistant
Principal of the Academy from 1971 through 1982. He later served as Benet’s Chancellor
throughout his tenure as Abbot.
