Anthony LaScala

Anthony "Tony" Louis LaScala, age 91, of Naperville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 17, 1934, Tony dedicated his life to faith, family, and education.

Tony was the beloved husband of Monica (Drees) LaScala for 66 wonderful years. He was a devoted and proud father to Paul (Kerry), Andy (Diane), Phil (Stacey), and Mark (Kristin). Tony was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Elizabeth. He was a fond and caring grandfather to Jonathan (Sarah), Benjamin (Taylor), Timothy, Samuel, Christopher, Peter, Charlie, Elizabeth, Joseph, and Jake.

He is survived by his sister Lucille and brother Louis, and was preceded in death by his sister Nancy, and brothers Sam and Nathan (Babe).

Tony dedicated more than three decades to inspiring students and athletes through his career in education. He began his teaching and coaching career with five years at St. Paul High School in Owosso, Michigan, followed by a year at Hackett Catholic Prep School in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He then served for 30 years as a respected teacher, coach, and athletic director at St. Procopius College, later known as Illinois Benedictine College and Benedictine University.

Throughout his career, Tony inspired countless individuals with his commitment, integrity, and passion for developing not only their skills, but also their character. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched both on and off the court. He loved meeting new people and considered everyone he met his friend.

Above all, Tony will be remembered for his steadfast love for his family, his deep faith, and his love of sport. His presence brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 4:00-8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. All are invited to meet for the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 21, 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 2220 Lisson Rd., Naperville. Interment will be private.
